After the usual aloof and surly receptionists we've become used to, the friendliness of the staff at the Angkor Tara hotel was a little unsettling! Offered lemon tea and hot towels on arrival and checked in despite being too early and not charged!
The city is really more of a town rapidly embracing tourism. We jumped into a tuc-tuc, negotiated a price with the really friendly driver and off we went to explore. straight into the floods ...
The bike conked out in the water but just as we were contemplating wading to freedom, he got it started. We couldn't get to half the town due to the water so ended up in a local off the beaten track, Market.
Tried some satay food and chatted to several stall holders, all of whom were relaxed and happy for me to take their pictures. Non of the usual hassles from more jaded locations. What a delightful people. Ended up having a drink from freshly cut coconut, mmmm.
Rathan, tuc-tuc driver.
How to open a coconut...
