At primary school I was taught (?) at an RC faith school and was mortified by near psychopathic Irish priests bent on rote learning of the catechism. They did a splendid job on my agnosticism. At secondary school I tried theatre and was given the important part of holding on to the anchor in HMS Pinafore. In sports I was invariably one of the goal posts. In academia I was a dullard and still am, my dyslexia being discovered only in middle age.
I've worn a few varied hats during my life, fun things like a season working as a Carnie at the fun fair, and not so fun things like working as a debt collector and a tax inspector. However, I found by accident that I could just about manage to point and press the button on a camera. These two abilities surprisingly led to photo college and eventually to letters like ABIPP, ARPS behind my name and a career in photography, which has been the most consistent and longest lasting aspect of my life.
Somehow I became a professional photographer and have worked in various parts of the world for many blue-chip companies as well as shooting freelance for nearly a decade in Saudi Arabia. A quite interesting story, extolled here: Interview. Whilst fun, I did nearly kill myself there while stupidly diving alone in the Red Sea, and that story is here: A Risk Worth Taking. Ah, youth...
These days I'm just a happy amateur shooting stuff for myself and enjoying every second.
If you would like any of my images printed and framed, (like the one below) the charge is at the production cost + 30%. Why not give your wall a gift?
