River Kwai

David Lean, a wonderful film maker (Lawrence of Arabia, Ryan's Daughter, etc) immortalised the suffering that allied troops captured by the Japanese underwent when used as forced labour to build this bridge over the River Kwai. Over seven thousand died as a result. Despite visiting Bangkok back in the eighties, I never took the trip to see the still-standing bridge. I shall be going over-land by train from Malaysia (an interesting journey in itself) via Bangkok and this time I'll have a look. Spend the day walking up HellFire pass and try and imagine what it must have been like for those poor men. Most tourists just see the bridge and move on, not many bother to walk the pass. Spending the night at this place should be an experience as well, nice luxury tents!

That's It Folks!

The gate is now shut. With no one around, it's time to turn off the lights and leave. It's been fun and maybe one day someone will...
