Frustratin' World

Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin' 

I'm sitting here just contemplatin' I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation. 
Handful of senators don't pass legislation And marches alone can't bring integration 
When human respect is disintegratin' This whole crazy world is just too frustratin' 



At school, aged about fourteen, I was convinced I had no future. Just about everyone thought we were a hairs-breadth away from blowing everyone and everything to smithereens through nuclear war. It's now common knowledge we weren't paranoid in thinking so either as we came very close on a number of occasions to pressing the button for Armageddon. People today don't worry about that anymore, but the threat is in fact arguably just as high if not higher. MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction stayed the hand of the military and politicians then as now, but today, with nuclear devices small enough to be packed into a suitcase, would MAD stay the hand of a religious zealot?


Yet I don't see the political youth today as concerned in the same way that we once were. The global consciousness seems subsumed by more personal matters, fragmented and absorbed in niche interests rather than broad concerns. Yes, there's no doubt about it, it's all Facebook's fault.


My favourite cold war satirical film? Dr. Strangelove.




And the most thought provoking song of my teenage years? Well, it has to be this one,
Eve Of Destruction.
(Incidentally, I loved the cruel irony of the advert that appeared over this song, for a wargame involving tanks...)
