Despite a snivelling cold that threatens to overwhelm my eyes and nose, this morning was wonderfully misty and lifted my spirits a little. What? You're amazed I'm not complaining of the dampness and grey light? Then perhaps you don't understand photography.
A sunny day can in fact be the very worst weather for an interesting shot. Give me wet and murk every time. At these times the light can be particularly soft and, as long as you get in close, illuminates small objects beautifully. No harsh shadows or over-bright areas to burn out the details or the sensor, you see.
So this morning I saw this sad and uninspiring leaf sitting forlornly upon the bonnet of my car. Poor thing. So I took its picture. But it didn't look any happier and still looks sad and forlorn. But that's autumn for you. A season of mist and mellow fruitfulness, as the poets say.
