Following on from my previous post on air crashes, I remember very vividly visiting the Royal Aircraft Establishment investigation hanger at Farnborough with my old friend (now deceased) who used to investigate these things. He was a metallurgist but also a man who had to go in and sift through the wreckage and body parts. One day he allowed me in to the sensitive hanger where they re-construct crashed aircraft, and there, on one side of the hanger, was the Lockerbie 747. The small picture below the main one shows the effect of the bomb, the metal of the aircrafts skin twisted into the petals of a deadly flower.
The experience was humbling and the place felt to me, filled as it was by the wreckage of several planes, eerie.
