Today was a quiet day for the bench. Plenty of people, but no one had time to sit. Or have I, as the secret snapper, been rumbled? Just as I was about to give up for the day, this young woman sat down, totally absorbed in her messages. She almost stumbled into the bench so absorbed was she in her phone. People walk, drive, eat (and of course, sit) while mobile messaging so much that this sight is becoming a common theme everywhere and especially so for the bench. Life around people engrossed in their pocket communicators passes by almost unnoticed. Dangerous in a car, but a bit sad when you have a sunny day and the time to appreciate the world around you, yet the text screen demands full attention. She will probably go back to work and stare at another screen ...
